Ikat Frabrics from Central Java
One of the famous places in Indonesia producing ikat fabrics isĀ Central Java.
Previously, Central Java is famous for its Batik. But, now, it is also well-known for its many traditional weft-ikat producers.
In Bali, Lombok, East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara, ikat fabrics made in Central Java are widely known as Rainbow Ikat.
The fabrics are handmade by local artisans using traditional weaving loom. Most of the raw materials are also from the cotton plants owned by the villagers. They do produce good quality cotton.
Many people apply them on various home decorations such as tapestry, cushion cover, curtain, table cloth, and many more. Yet, actually, these Ikat Fabrics would look good when turned into apparel such as dresses, skirts, blazers, pants, blouse.
One of the reputable Indonesian Fashion Designers, Poppy Dharsono, applied them on her creation last August on the APPMI fashion show.
